![]() As I write this, I’m meeting with many Bemidji-area seniors who are losing their current Blue Cross, Medica or Health Partners Medicare plan. Many of these individuals are quite intelligent and have done quite a bit of research, yet almost all of them tell me how overwhelming and confusing it all is. If you are needing to replace your current Medicare plan, there are a several things you need to consider in order to make a well-informed decision. But there’s so much confusing information out there, that it is hard to sort through it all to figure out what’s important. In addition, there is a lot of confusing terminology and many different types of plans with confusing names. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense to even a college-educated American. So why is Medicare so confusing? I suppose it is because the system is designed by politicians. Any time you get a group of politicians that can’t agree on anything in a room, you’re going to end up with a complicated result - something that tries to satisfy everyone’s different agendas and ideas and jumbles them up into something resembling a plan. Here’s some good news. Medicare insurance plans pay for agents to assist you. You can get the help of a professional, knowledgeable insurance agent for no additional money out of your pocket. (I explain this more here.) Because Medicare is so confusing, it is very rewarding for me to be able to sit down with a Medicare beneficiary and explain things in a clear and simple way, so that he or she finally understand and can feel confident in the decision made. To prepare to assist people with the transition this year, I have spent many, many hours certifying and studying the plans that are available. And given how many Medicare clients I’ve already met with, I’m quite “practiced up” on breaking down the key points that you need to know in choosing a new plan. If you live in the Bemidji area and would like help, give my office a call and we will set a time to meet.
